turkey tolson tjupurrula spear dreamingtingari 2000 127 x 90 cm this painting is associated with the area of iiyingaungau in the western australian desert. it depicts a pre-battle ceremony with numerous spears being straightened, represented by the line work. this piece depicts the repetition involved in the crafting of spears. this is a long and arduous process and requires great skill and strength. a tree known as spearbush pandorea doratoxylon is used to make the shaft of these spears, as the wood is lightweight, very strong and can be readily straightened and hardened over a fire. in the dreamtime a large group of mitukatjirri men travelled from a claypan at tjukula to ilyingaungau, where they made camp. at the same time further north a group of men from tjikarri entered the area. they made a camp near an overhanging cliff and prepared a large campfire to keep them warm in the night. the mitukatjirri men saw the campfire in the distance and immediately started preparing their spears to challenge the tjikarri men to a fight. the tjikarri men willingly accepted the challenge. the pre-battle ceremony continued till the early hours of the morning. after the fight the mitukatjirri men travelled to a near by cave in the mountains to rest. the work is 127 x 90cm and is stretched. it will be sent free of charge unstretched and rolled in a tube or the painting can be picked up from aboriginal galleries of australia, 35 spring street melbourne for further details please contact the gallery 03 9654 2516 maryanne hollow, director you are buying from aboriginal galleries of australia 35 spring street melbourne 3000 why you may ask why an internationally recognised gallery would have listings on . its a simple answer. advertising. reaches millions of people across the globe its the most cost effective form of advertising and selling an artwork that i can think of.

ORIGINAL painting Australian aboriginal inspired -click here for more
this is a painting done not by an aboriginal but by a wonderfully talented artist, painter and sculptor, brian rose, who was inspired by the different aboriginal methods of art in this piece he has utilised the cross hatching work of the aboriginal peoples of the kimberleys in western australia, the x-ray art styles of southern australia and the dot painting style of the papunya people in central australia with his own interpretations of forms and colours. this painting was done in the mid 1990s and took over 1200 hours to complete. considering its size 104cm x 84cm with no blank space around the edges and the fact that there are dots within dots within dots, using a brush which contained only one hair bristle it is easy to understand why it took so long to complete and the amazing determination and skill to do so. the painting was commissioned by me from the artist and i waited over 3 years for it to be completed. when it came time to frame it, the framing gallery owner and i spent considerable time deciding just how this should be done. no matter what frame or what colour border we tried, the painting lost considerable appeal so it was decided to simply put the painting on a board and cover it with a piece of perspex. the painting is done on a piece of cloth that which they use in the lining of car roofs before the upholstery goes on. this particular cloth has a sticky heat activated backing which made it impossible to heat stick to the board as it would have lifted the paint. the painting has, over the years, self stuck to the board anyway and the perspex is still in original condition with no scratches or marks. to keep it all together it was fastened with a small screw in each corner that was then covered with a white plastic cap the only sign that there is anything holding it together at all and does not detract from the painting. sadly the artist passed away a few years ago car accident out where he was at last happy and at peace with his world the outb
