once in a lifetime apportunity to purchase the most collectible of the constructeur bicycles, the rene herse. i need not go into the history of herse as any serious buyer will be well aware of the perfection and innovation of the parisian master. this rare bike is not one of the lower end models such as the federal or a lesser budget equipped model, but features full herse componentry. the iconic headstem, cranks and press fit cartridge botte bracket round of the superlative attention to detail in construction. this bicycle was built in 1956, the golden years, and according to the original owners engraved stem cap, as required by french law at the time, was purchased by a resident in the same street as rene herses boutique, only adding to its unique provenance. the bicycle is as purchased and has not even been cleaned or polished, a testament to the amazing original condition. it has been repainted, many years ago in herse blue, and it appears the original colour was a mint green. the paint is in excellent condition and has a lovely patina that a rested bicycle can never hope to achieve. of course wheels are maxicar hubs x super champion rims and run as smooth and true as the day they left renes hands.the only item that has been updated is obviously the later simplex derailleur, and huret front derailleur, a typical period update.front jos headlight has large scratch on lens. the bike was fitted with weinman brakes, but i have also included an excellent pair of mafac racer as these have better, perfect guard clearances, unlike the weinman fitted which are tight and as a result the guards have had a clearence joggle pressed into them to accomodate them. the bike is currently disassembled to facilitate export packing. the bicycle requires reassembly, obviously you would fit new cables and sheaths, new tyres as the old one are too dry, new mudguards would be an option but the old ones have a lovely patina and are still very servicable, new handlebar tape and fresh brak
